               World Environmental Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June at Andhra Loyola college and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment in students.                This year, the theme of WED is **Beat Plastic Pollution** , which aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste on our planet and our health, and to inspire people to take action to reduce their plastic footprint.                Plastic is a versatile and durable material that has many benefits for modern society. However, it also poses a serious threat to our environment and our well-being when it is not properly managed and disposed of. Some facts about plastic pollution are: - More than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year worldwide, half of which is designed to be used only once. Of that, less than 10 per cent is recycled. An estimated 19-23 million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas annually. That is approximately the weight of 2,200
