Day 1 Highlights – April 16, 2025
The International Conference on Powering
the Future with Green Computing (PFGC-2025) commenced with great enthusiasm,
drawing together students, technocrats, researchers, and academic leaders to
explore sustainable computing practices.
- Inaugural Address by Chief Guest – Mr.
V. Ramesh, Principal Architect at DHL, titled “Green by Design: Engineering
Sustainable Infrastructure in Global Supply Chains.”
Mr. Ramesh shared key insights on DHL’s
carbon-neutral initiatives, electric vehicle logistics, and the need to design
software responsibly. He stressed the growing problem of e-waste from billions
of mobile and computing devices and advocated for AI-powered sustainability
solutions.
- Guest of Honour – Mr. Syed Wasim
Akram, Senior Data Scientist and AI/ML Specialist, delivered a
thought-provoking talk on “The Carbon Cost of Code.”
He discussed the energy demands of
large-scale AI models and data centers, and introduced Green Coding as a vital
practice. He emphasized cleaner code, federated learning, and responsible AI
development.
- Academic Session – Dr. P. Bharathi,
Professor at Sri KBR Government Degree College, spoke on “Eco-aware
Programming Models” and the integration of sustainability into academic
curricula.
- Leadership Talk – Ms. Anupama Giri,
ICF ACC Technology Leader, addressed “Leadership for Sustainable Tech
Transformation”, urging thoughtful use of AI as an empowering, not
overpowering, tool.
- Research Presentations showcased
cutting-edge work on:
• Low-power neural networks
• Blockchain in green supply chains
• Edge computing and e-waste-aware
hardware
The day concluded with an engaging
interactive session with industry mentors and active participation from staff,
students, and research scholars.
Day 2 Highlights – April 17, 2025
Day 2 of PFGC-2025 focused on the
intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability, featuring
deep-dives into energy-efficient AI and renewable computing infrastructures.
- Starting the session with high-keynote by
Ms. Diana Susan Fernandez, Head of Learning & Development, and
ALC Alumna (MCA 2011) on “Sustainability of AI and Green AI.”
She discussed AI models like BERT,
DistilBERT, and emphasized sustainable data handling through platforms like
Azure.
- Session by Ms. Parimala,
Sustainability Expert, titled “Sustainability in AI & ML.”
She explored Green AI techniques,
energy-efficient ML models, federated learning, and introduced tools like
Hugging Face’s carbon tracking. Global frameworks such as the EU AI Act and
UNESCO guidelines were also reviewed, along with many different Case studies.
- Technical Talk by Rosi Reddy S.,
Senior Lead DevOps Engineer and ALC Alumna (MCA 2011), presented “Renewable
Power and Cloud Computing.”
He addressed the ecological impact of
data centers, the role of AI-enabled smart grids, and highlighted real-world
sustainability practices by Google, Microsoft, and AWS.
- Valedictory Address by Rev. Fr. Dr.
K.M. Prabhudas, Vice Principal, focused on the urgency of e-waste
management and the role of youth in building an environmentally-conscious
future.
- Student Presentations and Impact
The day featured insightful student
projects showcasing practical solutions aligned with the theme of green
computing.
Conclusion
The two-day international conference
successfully fostered dialogue, innovation, and responsibility in the computing
world. It inspired participants to pursue Green Computing as a lifelong
commitment—not just as a tech trend but as a sustainable ethos.
With rich contributions from academia and
industry alike, PFGC-2025 has truly set a benchmark for collaborative action
toward a greener technological future.
